Access rules let you set which customers can view the target product page, and how to restrict customers who are not in the visible-to group. For visible to, choose one of "Logged in customer," "Guest (unauthenticated users)," or "Password holder." You can add customer tags only when "Logged in customer" is selected.
Note: Access rules do not provide complete content protection. Product page content may be indexed by search engines or retrieved using browser developer tools. Do not place sensitive information on restricted pages.
You can configure the following items in the access rule edit screen.
Field | Description |
|---|---|
Title | The internal name used to identify the rule |
Priority | The evaluation order when multiple rules apply |
Eligible items | The scope of products the access limit applies to |
Visible to | The customers who can view the target product page |
Restriction method | The restriction method applied to customers who are not in the visible-to group |
Status | Whether the rule is enabled or disabled |
The title is an administrative name and is not shown to customers. For priority, rules with a higher number are evaluated first; the default is 0. The restriction method of the first rule that matches the eligible items and actually restricts the viewer is applied.
Select the scope of products the access limit applies to.
Value | Description |
|---|---|
All items | All product pages in the store |
Specific collections | Product pages included in the specified collections |
Specific products | Pages of the specified products |
Products with specific tags | Pages of products with the specified tags |
Prerequisite: Even if you select a collection that includes products at the variant level, the access restriction applies to the entire product page that contains those variants.
Choose one of the following three types for the customers who can view the target product page.
Value | Description |
|---|---|
Logged in customer | Shown to logged-in customers. Can be further narrowed down by customer tags |
Guest (unauthenticated users) | Shown to customers who are not logged in |
Password holder | Shown to customers who use the configured password |
For "Logged in customer," you can set the following customer tag conditions.
Allowed customer tags: Shown to customers who have at least one of the configured tags.
Denied customer tags: Not shown to customers who have at least one of the configured tags.
Prerequisite: If you set both allowed and denied customer tags, only customers who have at least one allowed tag and none of the denied tags are eligible.
Select the behavior for customers who are not in the visible-to group.
Value | Description |
|---|---|
Show custom screen | Shows a screen on the target page that informs the customer of the access restriction |
Redirect to URL | Moves to the specified URL |
For "Show custom screen," you can set the title, description, primary action, and secondary action. If visible to is set to "Password holder," you can also set the password hint and the submit button text.
If visible to is "Password holder" and the restriction method is "Redirect to URL," the password entry screen is not shown. Share the latest "Password Link" generated after saving with the customers you want to allow access. After opening the link, customers can access the target product page.
When you select "Specific collections" for eligible items, you can set "Also restrict the collection page." When enabled, the same restriction applies to the collection page itself (/collections/…) in addition to the product pages in the collection. The default is disabled.
Note: Even when enabled, the collection name is not removed from navigation menus or collection lists.
Enabled: Enforces the configured access restriction.
Disabled: Does not enforce the access restriction.

Access rules restrict the target product pages. Only when "Specific collections" is selected for eligible items and "Also restrict the collection page" is enabled do they also restrict the specified collection page itself. Search results, product cards on the homepage, and displays outside the online store are not restricted.
Note: Access rules do not block purchases. Customers may still be able to proceed to purchase through the Shop app, cart buttons on pages that are not restricted, cart permalinks, and similar routes. If you also want to restrict purchases, combine this with a customer rule.
Note: Access rules do not provide complete content protection. Do not place sensitive information on restricted pages.
