This example changes the maximum weight a customer can buy in a single order by membership rank, and prevents customers who are not logged in from purchasing. Customer tags separate the groups, and the limits are set with weight rules by customer group.
Available on the Full plan. Set the customer tag on the customers you want to target in the Shopify admin. Tag matching requires the customer to be logged in.
In the following setup, the same cart can be purchased or not depending on the group of the logged-in customer.

With a cart total of 8kg, a VIP member can purchase.
With a cart total of 8kg, a regular member cannot purchase.
Customers who are not logged in cannot purchase eligible products at any weight.
(1) Open the create screen
Open the app admin → "Weight limits" → "Weight rules by customer group", then select "Create rule".
(2) Set the rule name and group condition
For "Rule name", enter a name for admin use such as "Weight limits by membership rank", and under "Group condition" select "Customer tags".
(3) Add the VIP members group
Select "Add group", enter "VIP members" for "Group name" and vip for "Customer tags", then add it. For the added group, choose "Limit" and enter 10 in "Maximum weight".
(4) Set the limits for Member and Guest
For "Member", choose "Limit" and enter 3 in "Maximum weight". For "Guest", choose "Cannot purchase".
(5) Set the weight unit and eligible items, then save
Select "Kilograms (kg)" for "Weight unit", "Cart" for "Applicability", and choose the products to target under "Eligible items". Enter a product message if needed, then save.
(1) Enable the rule
On the details page, select "Enable". Saving alone does not enable the limit.
A logged-in customer with the vip tag can purchase up to a 10kg cart total.
A logged-in customer without the vip tag can purchase up to a 3kg cart total.
Orders from customers who are not logged in and include eligible products are blocked.
For a customer with more than one tag, only the first group they match, from the top of the list, applies.
Setting Guest to "Cannot purchase" belongs to this example. It is not a required condition of weight rules by customer group. To let guests purchase, choose "No limit" or "Limit" instead.
