With product-specific bundle limits, you set the bundle condition for each product and the restriction method for each variant. Enabling the feature as a whole and the messages are set in "Settings".
Prerequisite: To use product-specific bundle limits, select "Get started" and then enable the feature in "Settings". Enabling it requires the Light plan or the Full plan.
In the product list under the app admin → "Bundle limits" → "Product-specific bundle limits", set the following for each product. After making changes, select "Save changes".
Setting | Description |
|---|---|
Status | Choose "Not set", "Enabled", or "Disabled". The bundle condition applies only to products that are "Enabled" |
Restriction | Choose from the 7 bundle conditions. Available when the status is "Enabled" |
Partner items | Shown for restrictions that need partner items. Use "Select" or "Edit" to specify the products it can (or cannot) be purchased with |
Variants | Opens the settings for each variant from "Edit variant restrictions". Shown for products with two or more variants, or products that have variant settings |
You can select whole products or specific variants.
You can select 1 to 50 items in total, counting products and variants together.
You cannot select the product itself or its variants.
You cannot save without selecting at least one partner item.
For "Requires a selected product", you cannot save if all the selected partner items are excluded items.
Caution: If you set the status to "Not set", the common setting for the product is removed. Variant-specific settings are kept, but they are not applied.
Choose one of the following 7 conditions for each product.
Restriction | Behavior |
|---|---|
Purchase alone only | Cannot be purchased together with other products. Other variants of the same product cannot be bundled either. |
Bundle with variants of the same product only | Can be purchased only together with other variants of the same product. |
Bundle with products from the same vendor only | Can be purchased only together with products from the same vendor. |
Cannot purchase alone | Cannot be purchased unless it is bundled with other products. |
Bundle with selected products only | Can be purchased alone or together with selected products. Cannot be bundled with products that are not selected. |
Cannot bundle with selected products | Cannot be purchased together with selected products. |
Requires a selected product | Cannot be purchased unless at least one of the selected products is also purchased. |
Bundle conditions are checked against the products and variants in the cart. Items specified as excluded items are not counted in the checks and are not treated as partner items for other products.
Restriction | The restriction is violated when |
|---|---|
Purchase alone only | The cart contains another product or another variant of the same product |
Bundle with variants of the same product only | The cart contains a product other than this product |
Bundle with products from the same vendor only | The cart contains products from two or more vendors |
Cannot purchase alone | The cart contains only one product (variants of the same product alone do not satisfy the condition) |
Bundle with selected products only | The cart contains a product other than this product that is not a selected product |
Cannot bundle with selected products | The cart contains a selected product |
Requires a selected product | The cart contains none of the selected products |
Other variants of the same product are not counted as partner items. "Cannot purchase alone" and "Requires a selected product" are checked only at checkout.
When you open "Edit variant restrictions", you can choose one of the following restriction methods for each variant.
Restriction method | Behavior |
|---|---|
Use common setting | Uses the product's restriction and partner items |
Use individual setting | Uses a restriction and partner items set for that variant only |
No restriction | Does not apply a bundle restriction to that variant |
If you choose a restriction that needs partner items under "Use individual setting", select partner items for each variant. If the product's status is not "Enabled", variant settings can be saved but are not applied.
You can search products by name. You can also filter by collection, product status, product tag, and limit settings (Configured, Enabled, Disabled, or Not configured). You can sort by name, created date, or updated date, in ascending or descending order.
In "Settings", you set whether the feature is enabled as a whole, excluded items, messages, and display timing.
Setting | Description |
|---|---|
Product-specific bundle limits | Turns the bundle restrictions on or off for checkout |
Excluded items | Specify items such as gift wrapping or free gifts. They are not counted in the restriction checks and cannot satisfy another item's required partner. Up to 50 in total, counting products and variants together |
Product messages | Messages that explain the purchase conditions on the product page. There are 7, one for each restriction. Default text is provided, and if you leave one empty, that message is not shown |
Alert messages | Messages shown when a restriction is violated. There are 7, one for each restriction. They cannot be left empty |
Display timing | Shows alerts at "Cart updated and checkout" or "Checkout only" |
Messages are shared by all items with the same restriction. Partner item names are not inserted automatically.
Prerequisite: To display product messages on the product page, enable the app embed in your main theme. If you only use the limit at checkout, the app embed is not required.
Caution: Even when "Cart updated and checkout" is selected, the alert messages for "Cannot purchase alone" and "Requires a selected product" appear only at checkout.
You can use the following variables in messages.
Variable | Replaced with |
|---|---|
{{itemName}} | The product name (for a product with variants, "product name / variant name"). Alert messages only |
{{productTitle}} | The product name |
You can set messages for each language from "Translate".
