RuffRuff Order Limits

Initial Setup (Payment Limits)

This explains the steps for using payment limits for the first time after installation.

Payment rules let you control which payment methods are shown at checkout based on conditions for language, customer, product, and order.

Before creating a payment rule, choose a pricing plan from "Pricing" in the app admin.

Prerequisite: Even when testing on a development store, you need a test pricing plan contract. Under Shopify's specifications, test contracts are free.

Set the display mode and target conditions, then enable the payment rule.

(1) Open Payment rules

Open the app admin → "Payment rules".

(2) Create a payment rule

Select "Create rule".

(3) Set the payment methods and conditions and save

Configure the required fields and save.

You can configure the following for a payment rule.

Field

Description

Title

An internal name for the rule

Display mode

Hide the specified payment methods, or show only the specified payment methods

Payment methods

The payment methods to show or hide, and how they are matched

Languages

All languages, or specific languages

Customers

All customers, customers with accounts, or guests

Products

All items, specific collections, specific products, or pre-order items

Orders

Order price, weight, delivery options, or cart attributes

Note: If you enable multiple "Show only the specified payment methods" rules, all payment methods may be hidden when the conditions overlap.

Prerequisite: Using "Pre-order items" as a product condition requires the RuffRuff Pre-Orders app.

(4) Enable the payment rule

In the payment rules list, select the target rule and choose "Enable rules", or select "Enable" in the edit screen.

Proceed to checkout while meeting the configured conditions, and check how the payment methods are displayed.

  • With "Hide the specified payment methods," the specified payment methods are not shown

  • With "Show only the specified payment methods," only the specified payment methods are shown

  • If the configured conditions are not met, the payment methods available in Shopify are shown as they are

Note: With "Show only the specified payment methods," if none of the specified payment methods exist in the checkout, the rule is not applied — to prevent checkout from having no available payment method — and all payment methods are shown.

Check the following to make sure setup is complete.

  • Chose a pricing plan

  • Set the display mode, payment methods, and applicable conditions

  • Enabled the payment rule

  • Checked the behavior at checkout both when the conditions are met and when they are not
