Weight limits by product let you set a weight limit at the variant level, and a total weight limit that adds up the eligible variants within the same product.
Prerequisite: To use weight limits by product, select "Start using", then enable the feature on "Settings".
Limit the weight of the same variant using a minimum weight and a maximum weight.

If you choose "Product unit", the minimum weight and maximum weight are interpreted using the weight unit registered in Shopify for each variant.
When "Weight limit" is "Enabled" and the product has two or more variants, you can choose from the following methods under "Edit limits for each variant".

Even with "Use variant settings", the weight unit uses the setting selected in the product row's "Weight limit". You cannot change the unit for each variant.
Choosing "No limit" does not exclude the variant from the total in "Total weight limit".
Add up the weight of eligible variants that belong to the same product, and evaluate it against a minimum weight and a maximum weight. Different products are not combined.

When "Total weight limit" is "Enabled" and the product has two or more variants, you can choose the following settings under "Edit total weight targets".

Total weight targets are independent of the variant-level "Weight limit".
Set the on/off switch for the entire feature and the messages. There is no shared weight unit setting; the unit is set separately for each "Weight limit" and "Total weight limit" row.

Prerequisite: To show the product message on the product page, enable the app embed in your main theme. The app embed is not required if you only use the limit at checkout.

Because Shopify lets you change the weight unit for each variant, a single product can have mixed registered units. If you leave the weight unit as "Product unit", note the following.
The minimum weight and maximum weight in "Weight limit" are interpreted for each variant using that variant's own registered unit. If the setting is 20–40, it applies as 20g–40g for a variant in g, and 20kg–40kg for a variant in kg.
"Total weight limit" is interpreted using the registered unit of the first eligible variant in the cart. For products with mixed units, the result can change depending on the order of items in the cart.
For products that may have mixed units, specify one of Grams (g), Kilograms (kg), Ounces (oz), or Pounds (lb) in "Weight unit".
Note: Variants without a weight set in Shopify are not included in either the weight limit or the total weight limit evaluation.
