Settings for product-specific customer limits are split between the product list and the settings page. On the product list, you set the conditions for each product. On the settings page, you register the customer tags and values used in conditions, set the messages, and enable or disable the feature.
On the product list, you set the status and the conditions for who can purchase each product. Changes apply when you select "Save" in the save bar at the top of the page.
Status: Choose "Not set", "Enabled", or "Disabled". You cannot set conditions on a product that is "Not set". On a "Disabled" product, the conditions are read-only and are not applied at checkout.
Login: Set this to "Required" to block customers who are not logged in.
Customer tags: Choose allow or block from the registered customer tags.
Customer metafields: Choose allow or block from the registered values. You cannot choose a value whose reference is not set.
Variant: Set how each variant is limited (see "Limit methods for variants" below).
You can search by product name and filter by "Limit settings", "Product tag", "Collection", and "Product status".
Allow means "Can buy if they have it". Block means "Cannot buy if they have it". You can select up to 10 customer tags and 10 values for allow, and up to 10 customer tags and 10 values for block.
Allow: Only customers who have any of the selected tags (or values) can purchase. If you select both allowed tags and allowed values, only customers who meet both can purchase.
Block: Customers who have any of the selected tags or values cannot purchase.
You cannot select the same tag or value for both allow and block. Guests (not logged in) cannot purchase a product that has an allow condition. If the email address entered at checkout matches an existing customer, the limit uses that customer's tags and values.
A tag or value whose registration you deleted on the settings page is shown in the product conditions as "(not registered)". An unregistered tag or value matches no customer. Remove it from the conditions, or register the same tag or value again on the settings page.
When the status is "Enabled" and the product has two or more variants, open "Edit variant restrictions" and choose a "Limit method" for each variant.
Use common setting: Use the conditions set on the product for that variant too.
Use individual setting: Do not inherit the product conditions. Use conditions for that variant only. Set "Login" to "Required", or set at least one condition.
No restriction: Do not apply a limit to that variant.
If the product status is "Disabled", the limit is not applied to any variant, including variants set to "Use individual setting".
On the "Customer tags" card on the settings page, register the customer tags to use as conditions. You can add only tags registered here to a product.
Tag: Enter the same string as the tag on the customer, from 1 to 255 characters. Matching is not case-sensitive. You cannot change a tag after you register it. To change it, register a new tag and delete the old registration.
Display name on product pages: Optional. You can enter up to 50 characters. It is shown for {{allowedCustomers}} and {{blockedCustomers}} in product messages. Leave it blank to hide it from the product message. You can translate it on the translation page.
You can register up to 100 customer tags. If the total length of the tags is large, registration can fail before you reach 100.
Note: Deleting the registration of a customer tag or value that is in use does not remove it from the product conditions. If it was used in a block condition, that condition stops applying. If it was used in an allow condition, no customer can purchase the product.
The deletion takes effect when you save the settings. Registering the same tag or value again restores the previous behavior.
On the "Customer metafields" card on the settings page, register the customer metafield to compare (the reference) and the values to use as conditions.
First, choose whether allow and block use the same metafield.
Use the same metafield to allow and block: This is the default. You can select each registered value for either allow or block on a product.
Use separate metafields to allow and block: Specify the metafield used for allow and the metafield used for block.
Set the reference and the values as follows.
Namespace and Key: Fill in both, or leave both empty. If they are empty, conditions that use that value are not evaluated.
Type: Choose "Single line text", "Integer", or "True or false". If you change the type and values that do not fit remain, you cannot save until you delete those values.
Value: Enter the same string as the value in the customer's metafield. Matching is case-sensitive and must be exact. Single line text is 1 to 100 characters. True or false is
trueorfalse. You can register up to 100 values per metafield.Display name on product pages: Optional, as with customer tags, up to 50 characters.
One product message is shown near the cart button on the product page, based on the selected variant's conditions. To show it, enable the app embed in your main theme.
One of the following four messages is chosen from the product's conditions. The default text is below.
Type | Default text |
|---|---|
Login required only | Log in to purchase {{productTitle}}. |
With allow conditions | {{productTitle}} is available only to {{allowedCustomers}}. |
With block conditions | Customer eligibility requirements apply to {{productTitle}}. |
With allow and block conditions | {{productTitle}} is available only to {{allowedCustomers}} who meet the purchase requirements. |
You can use these three variables.
{{productTitle}}: Shows the product name.{{allowedCustomers}}: Shows the display names of the tags and values in the allow conditions. You can use it in "With allow conditions" and "With allow and block conditions".{{blockedCustomers}}: Shows the display names of the tags and values in the block conditions. You can use it in "With block conditions" and "With allow and block conditions".
If none of the tags or values in the product's conditions has a display name, this text replaces the variable. By default, {{allowedCustomers}} is "eligible customers" and {{blockedCustomers}} is "ineligible customers". Leave it blank to hide that product message.
An alert message is shown in the cart or at checkout when the cart contains a product that does not meet the conditions. The app embed is not required.
The first matching message is shown, one per product. The order is login required, then block, then allow.
Type | Default text |
|---|---|
Login required | Log in to purchase "{{itemName}}". |
Matches a block condition | You cannot purchase "{{itemName}}". |
Does not meet the allow conditions | You do not meet the purchase requirements for "{{itemName}}". |
{{itemName}} is the product name. For a product with variants, it is "product name / variant name".
For "Display timing", choose "Cart updated and checkout" or "Checkout only". The default is "Cart updated and checkout".
For products without login required, customer tag and value conditions apply only at checkout, whatever the display timing.
From "Translate" on the settings page, you can translate product messages, the text when there are no display names, alert messages, and display names for each language.
The limits on counts and characters are below.
Item | Limit |
|---|---|
Conditions per product or variant | 10 each for allow tags, block tags, allow values, and block values |
Customer tag registrations | 100 |
Customer tag length | 1 to 255 characters |
Customer metafield value registrations | 100 per metafield |
Single line text value | 1 to 100 characters |
Display name on product pages | 50 characters |
