RuffRuff Order Limits

Initial Setup (Access Limits)

This explains the steps for using access limits for the first time after installation.

Access rules let you show a custom screen or redirect to a different URL when a customer who is not in the visible-to group accesses the target product page.

Before creating an access rule, choose a pricing plan from "Pricing" in the app admin.

Prerequisite: Even when testing on a development store, you need a test pricing plan contract. Under Shopify's specifications, test contracts are free.

Enable the RuffRuff Order Limits app embed on the theme where you use access limits.

(1) Open the theme editor

Open Shopify admin → "Online Store" → "Themes" → "Customize".

(2) Open App embeds

Select "App embeds".

(3) Enable RuffRuff Order Limits

Enable "RuffRuff Order Limits" and save.

Note: If the app embed is disabled for a theme, access limits on product pages and collection pages will not work on that theme.

Set the eligible items, visible to, and restriction method, then enable the access rule.

(1) Open Access rules

Open the app admin → "Access rules".

(2) Create an access rule

Select "Create rule".

(3) Set the necessary items and save

Set the following items, then save.

Field

Description

Title

An internal name for the rule

Priority

The evaluation order when multiple rules apply. Rules with a higher number are evaluated first; the default is 0

Eligible items

All items, specific collections, specific products, or products with specific tags

Visible to

Choose one: logged in customer, guest (unauthenticated users), or password holder

Restriction method

Choose: show custom screen or redirect to URL

Prerequisite: You can set customer tags only when "Logged in customer" is selected for visible to.

Prerequisite: To restrict the collection page itself, select "Specific collections" for eligible items and enable "Also restrict the collection page."

(4) Enable the access rule

In the access rules list, select the target rule and choose "Enable rules", or select "Enable" in the edit screen.

Access the target product page in a state that does not match the visible-to setting, and check that the configured custom screen or redirect works.

If you also restrict the collection page, select "Specific collections" for eligible items, enable "Also restrict the collection page," and check the target collection page as well.

Note: Access rules do not guarantee complete content protection or purchase prevention. Do not place sensitive information on restricted pages, and combine this feature with a customer rule if you also want to restrict purchases.

Check the following to make sure setup is complete.

  • Chose a pricing plan

  • Enabled the app embed on the theme you use

  • Set the eligible items, visible to, and restriction method

  • Enabled the access rule

  • Checked the behavior in a state that does not match the visible-to setting
