Initial Setup (Bundle Limits)

A bundle rule lets you restrict whether products can be purchased together.

Choose the type of bundle limit

Choose the restriction depending on the purchase condition you want to set.

Restriction	When to use it
No bundling (standalone only)	To allow purchase only on its own
Standalone purchase not allowed	To require bundling with another product
Bundle with eligible items only	To allow purchase only among eligible items
Bundle with same vendor items only	To allow purchase only among products from the same vendor
Bundle with same product variations only	To allow purchase only among variants of the same product
Bundle with selected items only	To allow purchase only with the selected products
Cannot bundle with selected items	To disallow purchase with the selected products
Only with required items	To require purchase with the selected products

Step 1 Choose a pricing plan

Before creating a bundle rule, choose a pricing plan from "Pricing" in the app admin.

Prerequisite: A test contract for a pricing plan is required even when testing on a development store. Under Shopify's specifications, test contracts are free.

Step 2 Set up the bundle rule

Create the bundle rule and enable it.

(1) Open Bundle rules

Open the app admin → "Bundle rules".

(2) Create the rule

Select "Create rule".

(3) Save the settings

Configure the required fields and save.

You can configure the following for a bundle rule.

Settings	Description
Title	The rule name for internal use
Limit details	The type of bundle restriction to apply at purchase
Eligible items	The products the restriction applies to
Items required depending on the condition	Items that can be bundled, items that cannot be bundled, required items
Excluded items	Products excluded from the restriction
Display timing	Cart updated and checkout, or Checkout only
Product message	The message shown on the product page (optional)
Alert message	The message shown when the limit is violated

For "Bundle with selected items only," "Cannot bundle with selected items," and "Only with required items," eligible items cannot be set to "All items." Each requires setting "Items that can be bundled," "Items that cannot be bundled," or "Required items" respectively. For "Standalone purchase not allowed" and "Only with required items," display timing is automatically set to "Checkout only."

(4) Enable the bundle rule

For a bundle rule, select the rule in the list and choose "Enable rule", or select "Enable" on the edit screen.

Step 3 Enable the app embed

Enabling the app embed is a recommended setting. It is required if you use product messages. If you only use limits at checkout, this step is not necessary.

(1) Open the theme editor

Open Shopify admin → "Online Store" → "Themes" → "Customize".

(2) Open App embeds

Select "App embeds".

(3) Enable RuffRuff Order Limits

Enable "RuffRuff Order Limits" and save.

Note: The limit is still enforced at checkout even if you don't enable the app embed. The app embed is required if you use product messages.

Step 4 Check the bundle rule you set

Check the combinations that violate the restriction, depending on the restriction you chose.

Restriction	Combination to check for a violation
No bundling (standalone only)	Add an eligible item and another product to the cart together
Standalone purchase not allowed	Add only the eligible item to the cart and proceed to checkout
Bundle with eligible items only	Add an eligible item and a product not covered by the rule to the cart together
Bundle with same vendor items only	Add eligible items from different vendors to the cart together
Bundle with same product variations only	Add eligible items from different products to the cart together
Bundle with selected items only	Add an eligible item and a product that is not allowed to be bundled with it to the cart together
Cannot bundle with selected items	Add an eligible item and a product designated as not bundleable to the cart together
Only with required items	Add only the eligible item to the cart and proceed to checkout

If the display timing is "Cart updated and checkout," check in the cart. If it is "Checkout only," proceed to checkout to check.
